William Randolph Hearst vs. Joseph Pulitzer II
Hearst and Pulitzer were both influential publishers who owned newspapers and who had a big rivalry; Hearst owned the New York Journal and Pulitzer owned the New York World (University of Florida). These newspapers had a new way of journalism, they included cartoons. Pulitzer created a cartoon called “The Yellow Kid”, drawn by a cartoonist called Outcault. Later on Hearts bought the design in order to compete against Pulitzer. The cartoon of the kid was used to create a trend among newspapers
Competition between publishers and newspapers was a big deal. News were often over-exaggerated and emphasized in issues like war and politics.
